After the earthquake in Ya'an, Sichuan Province, on April 20, 2013, CYDF immediately launched a disaster relief action and Sichuan Youth Development Foundation instantly dispatched a team to the stricken area. Based on the needs of affected youth and communities , CYDF started two relief programs: First, build "Earthquake-Relief Hope Primary School" (composed of prefabricated classrooms) so that children can resume classes as soon as possible; second, provide grants for students whose families were affected by earthquake so that they can have a relief in their study and life.
It is estimated that building a prefabricated classroom in the stricken area costs 30,000 yuan (including firming ground , providing fire control facilities, etc.), whereas funding a student there costs 1,000 yuan.
