Microsoft China has built five Hope Primary Schools in Anhui, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Inner Mongolia and Jiangxi. Its employees have donated considerable amount of stationeries and books to these schools. In 2000, Microsoft introduced its international youth project into China, all funds of which came from the sales of Bill Gates’ book Business @ the Speed of Thought. This project built 5 Hope Internet Schools in Gansu, Beijing and Hebei , aiming at providing rural children with access to internet. From 2002 to 2003, Microsoft and CYDF jointly organized three sessions of Microsoft Rural Teacher Training Course, helping improve the ICT-aided teaching skills of over 200 teachers from Hope Internet Schools. Along with the training, Microsoft China donated to CYDF 8,000 sets of the latest Office XP software for the development of Hope Internet School.
After the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, Microsoft donated USD 300,000 to Project Hope Disaster Relief Action, which were used to build 2 Earthquake-Relief Hope Primary Schools in the severely afflicted Wenxian County, Gansu Province, helping thousands of students get through the tough period.
In 2014, Microsoft joined hands with CYDF again and dedicated itself to providing technical support to the national YDF network and its 18,000 Hope Primary Schools for information construction, by donating 20,000 Office365 accounts, together with operating systems, server software, office software etc. in order to assist CYDF and its network to build Cloud Office to improve efficiency and provide high-quality services for the donors and the beneficiaries.
