Inditex is a fashion retailer which dates back to 1963 when it started life in a small workshop making women's clothing. It has always remained focused on listening closely to its customers to offer them the fashions they desire. This strong customer orientation would give rise, years later, to the launch of the first Zara store in 1975. This was followed by the brand's international expansion at the end of the 1980s and the successive launch of new retail concepts: Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, Zara Home and Uterqüe.

The public welfare cooperation between Inditex and CYDF kicked off in 2015 to implement the Village School Project in remote areas of China. In October 2015 Mr. Pablo Isla, the president of Inditex, met with He Junke, Chairman of All China Youth Federation during his visit to China, signed donation agreement with CYDF and presented the check of 3 million RMB, which laid a solid foundation for the cooperation.  The joint project involves reconstructing and renovating 10 rural schools, to equip students with basic facilities such as canteens for meals, classrooms, toilets and sports ground. When completed in 2016, the initiative will benefit 680 students in the rural areas of Fengshan (Guangxi province) and Heqing (Yunnan province).
Inditex takes the lead among multinational corporations in supporting Village Schools Project. The project aims to reconstruct and renovate small-size village schools, to extend philanthropic resources to the last mile of rural basic education in impoverished areas and to assist the government to fundamentally improve the school conditions of weak schools and promote education equality.
